AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach
AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach — Community hospital in the Bowman chain — AdventHealth system · adventhealth.com — New Smyrna Beach.
What it sells
A 109–112-bed community hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Florida (formerly Florida Hospital New Smyrna, renamed Jan 2, 2019), part of AdventHealth — one of the nation’s largest faith-based systems, with nearly 50 hospitals in nearly a dozen states. It is a community provider, not a network administrator; no VA contract number or hospital-specific VA payment figure was verified in this build’s research, and none is asserted.
The contract and the money
No hospital-specific federal contract verified. Any VA community-care participation would be as a network provider paid per authorized episode.
On the record
What the government’s own watchdogs and prosecutors have published about this company, newest first. The summaries are ours; the findings are theirs.
- Adventist Health System Agrees to Pay $115 Million to Settle False Claims Act Allegations (DOJ) — PARENT SYSTEM level; does not single out New Smyrna Beach (2015-09-21) — The parent system (Adventist Health System, now AdventHealth) paid $115 million to the United States (plus about $3.7M to states) to settle allegations of improper physician-compensation arrangements violating the Stark Law and miscoded claims. A settlement of whistleblower allegations at system level — printed as the system’s history, not as a finding about this hospital.
- Adventist Health System, Hospitals and Ambulance Companies to Pay More Than $20 Million (DOJ) — parent/predecessor level; named facilities did not include New Smyrna Beach (2004-10-28) — A $20.3 million settlement over allegations of medically unnecessary ambulance transports and false physician certifications (1993–2000 conduct at other named facilities). Parent-system history only.
In this family’s case
FROM THE CASE RECORD: this is the hospital of Dad’s December 2025 gallbladder surgery. The operative note for that surgery is ABSENT from the entire 2,611-page PicnicHealth pull — the production contains the pre-op note, the interval note, the discharge summary (which says the cholangiogram was ‘aborted due to inability to visualize flow’ and nowhere states a partial cholecystectomy), and the pathology report — while ‘partial cholecystectomy; gallstones within the residual gallbladder’ is asserted in imaging reports 13 times. On August 6, 2026, AdventHealth REFUSED the family’s direct HIPAA right-of-access demand (ref eRID 332378447), claiming the power of attorney was missing or expired; it is neither — the durable POA and health-care-surrogate designation were executed December 13, 2019. The refusal letter itself is cited in the family’s own sent mail; the hospital’s letter is not in the family’s hand. What a hospital cannot produce about an operation it performed is the subject of this page.
