Petition — Secretary Collins: Read the Record and Answer
Secretary Doug Collins: read the record and answer.
We, the undersigned, ask Doug Collins, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to read the documented record published on this site and to give Letter No. 1 a substantive written reply by November 14, 2026 — the deadline the letter itself requested.
The case, in brief
Letter No. 1 was mailed on October 15, 2026 — the first letter this family addressed to Secretary Collins personally, and at least the sixty-third substantive letter it had sent. The correspondence did not begin with the Secretary: it began with his patient advocates, his hotline, and his correspondence office — his department, at every level — and the archived case correspondence opens July 23, 2026. A letter to the team is a letter to the man who leads it; that is what the office means. The letter was written on behalf of Thomas Alan Bowman, Sr., a 100% service-connected U.S. Navy veteran (1960–1970). Everything below is documented on this site, from the VA’s own records:
- The advanced endoscopy VA surgeons recommended in writing on March 11, 2026 was never carried out. Five months of scheduling produced a consultation booked for August 28, 2026; no record the family holds shows the recommended advanced endoscopy ever performed.
- His VA Blue Button report carried his son’s birthday, his son’s email, a “Service connected percentage: 0,” and no record of his military service.
- A power wheelchair was approved — with a vehicle lift and hitch — and never delivered; the approval correspondence was addressed to his wife, who died in 2019.
- The White House VA Hotline took his family’s case (15115179), acknowledged it — and never called back.
The letter asks for six things. The first is a named human being accountable for this case. The full record is on the Bowman case page.
What a substantive reply means
A named official. An Executive Correspondence tracking number. Written answers to the letter’s six asks, on the record. Not an acknowledgment, not a referral back down the chain, and not a form letter.
What signing means
Signing adds your name to the public count of citizens — veterans, caregivers, family members, and supporters — asking the Secretary to read the record and answer it. You choose how your name appears: first name plus city and state, or anonymous, counted only. Signing creates no obligation and costs nothing; it says, in public, that this record deserves an answer.
Signature count: the verified count will be posted on this page and updated as signatures are verified.
