What the OIG found

The OIG completed a focused inspection of the VA Amarillo Healthcare System in Texas covering culture, environment of care, patient safety, integrated veteran care, and the veteran-centered safety net. The deficiencies identified were in the environment of care. The OIG made two recommendations: develop and carry out a plan to repair and maintain walls, floors, and ceilings while keeping clean and dirty items separate, and put measures in place to monitor temperature and humidity in medication rooms, both in line with VHA’s Comprehensive Environment of Care Program directive.
